While Beavers is "Fun and Friends, Cubs starts our young people on the path of "being prepared". The emphasis is on learning through fun. Essential life skills are taught such as road safety, home safety, and first aid along with the more traditional scouting activites such as knotting, hiking, and tracking.

It's in Cubs that the 8 to 11 year old boys and girls usually get their first experience of camping. We usually run two camps per year. Summer Camp, in early July, is a weekend of fun and games with some learning and is great for first timers.

The Senior Cubs Camp in May is a little more serious with the emphasis on adventure and self-reliance. The older cubs (10 years plus) take part in various adventurous activities such as kayaking, wall climbing, abseiling, night hikes, etc. and also have to look after themselves by cooking all their meals (and the leaders' meals) and setting up and maintaining an orderly campsite. This year, instead of the Senior Cubs Camp, we took part in Scoutabout 2008 with a few of our older cubs.

We currently have between 30 and 36 cubs in our Pack. Cubs meet on Monday evenings during term time. Contact cubs@1stewellcourtscouts.org.uk for more details or if you wish to be added to our waiting list.
